Tough to say here if it's good or not. Yes, the inner joint can come out and extend the boot, and it can go back without issues. Yours is not the first PL/ PT body to have done this during control arm replacement.
Hey guys while i was putting my front control arms back in my SRT4 (i replaced bushings) i was trying to get the ball joint back in place, i pulled a bit much on the knuckle and i popped the inner CV joint out on the axle i think. I pushed it back in and heard a clicking or snap noise. The axle didnt seem to latch back in or is it supposed to? There is still spring tension on it and it seems to be turning the trans ok... I think its fine but do you think i could have screwed something up? Do those have the snap ring on them where the axle goes into the 3 ball joint there? The boot just seems like its extended a bit more than it was... but i'm not sure. Talked to a trans guy at work he thought it should be fine but wanted a second opinion here before i get this all back together. Any help appreciated. Thanks!

I don't have a low boost setting. Well, I do now, but it's for when I use nitrous.
There is a spring on the inside that sits in the centre of the tripod to keep pressure on the shaft so its not just floating around inside the tripod. If the spring has popped out of the centre then it can be resting on one of the bearing rollers and that may be causing the snapping noise. Most times the spring will stay put but I would make sure all seems smooth while rotating the shaft with the suspension hanging to give it the effect of travel.

Thanks... Well i checked it out a bit more, the clicking noise was only a one time deal when i pushed it back in. Since then its been smooth and springy and seems to rotate ok. I finally got the arms back in completely (with a better approach... bolt in the rear bushing then rotate the arm around into the front pivot and pop the ball joint in before pushing the front pivot all the way) I just took car for a short drive around the neighbourhood and everything seems ok. No noises or anything. It was late so tomorrow i'll give 'er a more aggressive test but i'm hoping all is good. That control arm job was more than i bargained for, considering i just did the bushings on my 21 year old CSX last year and it was a way easier job. The cheap fastners on the SRT were so rusted and i broke 3 sway bar bolts LOL.

Well if you go to move off, hear a pop and don't move, don't rev the balls off it trying to get going. You'll strip the ends of the splines or if it's the joint popped back out, grind that up.
